How to Preserve Halloween Fun

Now that the trick or treating is over it's time to look at preserving the memories of the fun so that they can be relived for years to come...

Scrapbooking is great way to preserve family memories and memorabilia. Scrapbooking is a hobby that has rapidly growing in popularity over the past several years. Plus you can turn it into an evening for the family fun where everyone can participate in deciding what photos to include, choosing embellishments, and creating layouts.

DECIDING WHAT EVENTS TO INCLUDE

Here are some ideas of Halloween related events that you can include in your Halloween scrapbook:
  • Picking out Halloween costumes
  • A trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkin
  • Raking leaves in the yard
  • Hanging decorations
  • Baking Halloween treats
  • Greeting trick-or-treaters

SCRAPBOOKING SUPPLIES

Scrapbook Binder

Of course, to create a scrapbook, you will need a container for your memories to start out with. 3 ring binders make great photo albums and scrapbooking notebooks. 3 ring binders are perfect for either digital scrapbooking or traditional to preserve memories. Binders provide greater flexibility in the materials you can add to your scrapbook than bound pages, and it’s easy to add or remove pages as needed.

Specialty Paper

If you have a color printer, you can create and print your own photo pages for your scrapbook. But it’s more fun (even if it’s a little more work) to add your photos and embellishments directly onto decorative Halloween papers. This will give your pages some dimension and make your scrapbook stand out even more.

Other Supplies

You will also need things such as scissors, an exacto knife, glue dots, two sided tape, tweezers, stickers, and any other embellishments you would like to add.

EMBELLISHING YOUR SCRAPBOOK PAGES

Photos: A well-taken picture will capture more of the feel than any description you could ever write. So be sure to fill your scrapbook with all of the pictures you took of your child's costume or the events going on.
In addition to photos of your little ghoul or goblin you can include:
Leaves: Take a walk and pick up some colorful fall leaves that are falling from the trees in October.

Halloween party invites, postcards, and greeting cards: You can use the entire card so that you can still read the messages or simply cut off the picture part from the front to use as an embellishment.

Holiday crafts: Any Halloween artwork that your child has created is a welcomed addition to your Halloween scrapbook. If the project is too bulky or large to fit in the scrapbook, take some pictures of it to include instead. You can also include any crafts that were made at school or parties or that you and your child made on your own at home. You can also have your child create top ten lists of the current favorites this year – favorite costumes, candy, TV shows, etc.

Treats: Goodies from any parties that you attended are also fun to incorporate. The gift bag, name tag  or specialty candy wrappers are always nice to include.
Decorations: Any other decorations, mementos, or other things that would help spark memories when you look at the scrapbook later on.
